Ko’s storming finish
New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko made a storming finish to the LPGA Tour Championship in Florida to collect one of the most treasured trophies in women’s golf. The world No 5 shot a final round 8-under 64 yesterday to fire up the leaderboard. She ended the tournament at 15-under and in a tie for ninth, having started the final day in a distant 26th. South Korea’s Jin Young Ko hit nine birdies in a final round 63 to finish at 23-under and win by one shot from fast-finishing Nasa Hataoka of Japan. Ko’s stunning final round was good enough to win the Vare Trophy for the year’s lowest scoring average.
