A mother of all battles
Has the recent move to ideology language gone completely haywire? The report in the Waikato Times recently that the Midwifery Council of New Zealand intends to remove the words ‘woman’ and ‘mother’ from their practice guidelines is incomprehensible.
I am not a language expert but I imagine that the word mother is universally the most honoured and respected in the world. For the Midwifery Council of New Zealand to delete ‘mother’ from their guidelines will be an insult to all the mothers of the world, and a mark of total disrespect.
I respectfully suggest that the Council restore the honourable status of motherhood to its correct position in our vocabulary.
