London police guard Iranian journalists

-

Bomb-proof armoured vehicles and armed police were deployed to the London offices of an Iranian TV channel yesterday as Tehran continued its campaign of intimidation in Britain. As England prepares to take on Iran in their first World Cup match, Scotland Yard said the purpose of the armed unit was to mitigate threats ‘‘projected’’ by the Islamic Republic. Officers have been stationed outside the headquarters of the Farsi-language news channel Iran International, in Chiswick, west London, since Friday. The London Metropolitan police force has written to businesses at the office park regarding the police presence, saying that Iran International staff ‘‘could be targeted at their place of work’’.
