Marshall NZ title hopeful
Kevin Marshall will represent the King Country Indoor Bowls Centre at the New Zealand Champion of Champions event in Palmerston North on September 8.
Marshall won the King Country singles title for the second time when he defeated Jim Parsons (also playing out of the Waipa¯ Club) in an entertaining final at the O¯ torohanga Club.
The difference at the end of the 12 end game was one shot. Parsons narrowly missed an opportunity to score three shots on the last end to force an extra end.
Seven players qualified for post section play after the regulation four game qualifying rounds had been played. They were Gordon Lang, Liz Morrow and Bryan Wootten (all of O¯ torohanga) and Paul Walker, Olga Barnes and the two finalists all from Waipa¯ Club.
Marshall drew the bye, Walker beat Wootten, Parsons eliminated Morrow and Barnes defeated Lang.
In the all-Waipa¯ semi-final round, Parsons edged Walker after holding an advantage until the 11th end when the scores were tied and Marshall finished with a three shot advantage over Barnes.
There are two further events to be played in Taumarunui on May 26 — qualifying events for the New Zealand mixed pairs and fours zone finals to be hosted by North Taranaki.
