Cambridge stables score well at Waipa¯

Wins in four of seven races and the quinella in races two and four

Cambridge stables took out four of the seven races as well as providing the quinella in races two and four at Waipa¯ Racing Club on Wednesday.

It was the second meeting in less than a fortnight that Cambridge has dominated proceeding­s at Te Awamutu racecourse, having produced five winners on the nine race card on July 7.

Speedkeepe­r, trained by Alex Oliveira, won by 3.3 lengths on debut paying $20.40 in race two, the Vilagrad Winery 1400, with Troy Harris aboard.

The Stephen Marsh-trained Goldilicio­us, fresh from placing third at Waipa¯ on July 7, placed second. Danielle Johnson was Goldilicio­us’ jockey on both these occasions. Marsh had further success in race three, on Thee Auld Cruizer to win the Waipa¯ Workingmen’s Club 1580. Jockey Jason Waddell piloted the 4-year-old bay gelding to victory.

It was a big change of fortunes for the horse.

The Cambridge juggernaut continued in race four, the Limmer Lodge Polo 1580, won by the Murray Baker/Andrew Forsman-trained Ole Ole (Matthew Cameron). El Jodi (Darren Danis), trained by Catherine Cameron, finished second half a length in arrears to nail the second Cambridge quinella for the day.

The fourth Cambridge winner was Sellwood (Darren Danis) in race five, the Te Awamutu Plumbing and Drainage 1580. The 6-year-old bay gelding had placed third same course/distance on September 7.

Two other Cambridge runners placed second, Mr Hass (Vinnie Colgan) and Swissilici­ous (Ashvin Goindasamy) in races one and six respective­ly.

Te Awamutu stables secured one win and four thirds.

The solitary hometown winner was Ujumpijump (Bridget Grylls), trained on the course by Joseph Waldron, in race six the Merchant Liquor 1400.

Jockey Jason Waddell piloted the 4-year-old bay gelding to victory. It was a big change of fortunes for the horse after only producing battling efforts race day of late.

Horses to weigh in for third from Te Awamutu stables were Luck Of Wanted, trained by Carl Henderson, Our Beskees, by Debbie Sweeney, I Walk Along, by Clinton Isdale and Lotus Laud, by Peter Coutts.

The only race Cambridge and Te Awamutu runners did not place in the first three was the seventh, the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race won by Patsys Lass (Rowena Smyth) trained by Eamonn Green. Below Zero (Julian Castona) trained by Peter and Dawn Williams, Byerley Park, and Polly Grey (Bridget Grylls) trained by Kylie Fawcett, Matamata, were second and third respective­ly.

Race one, the Chipperfie­ld All Round Equine Education 1150, was won by Spirits Aubeer (Rowena Smyth) Next meeting is on Sunday, October 7.
