-

Olympian Dylan Kennett was first across the line in a very classy A Grade field in week nine of the Spoken Cycles Summer Series.

Kennett’s winning time for the 26km out-and-back journey around Mt Kakepuku was a rapid 33.39 last Tuesday.

In hot pursuit were Tom Sexton, Campbell Stewart, Sam Gaze and Nathan Bunn who all clocked 33.40 finishing second to fifth respectively, followed by Zakk Patterson, Michael Torckler 33.41, Hamish Bond, Sam Dobbs 33.42, Hayden McCormick, Ryan Mullen 33.46 who completed the top 10.

The A grade race was given an international flavour with the appearance of highly-rated Irishman Ryan Mullen who is staying briefly in Te Awamutu with his cycling buddy Hayden McCormick.

Mullen was Irish national time trial champion in 2015, 2017; Irish national road race champion 2014, 2017; fifth in the World time trial championship 2016, and first in this year’s seven-stage Vuelta San Juan road cycling race in Argentina.

The Spoken Cycles Summer Series wraps up tonight with the individual time trial (approximately 12km for grades and 6km for U15s) on Te Rahu and Story Rd.

Registration and the start/finish area will be on the corner of Te Rahu and Preston Rd (side road 500 metres from the cemetery).

Registration is from 5pm until 6.15 pm.

The end of series prize giving and Christmas barbecue will be held at the Te Awamutu Sports Clubrooms after the time trial.
