The Ohaupo¯ Community Sport and Recreation Centre will be located at O¯ haupo¯ Memorial Park. The Centre includes a community hall, clubroom space for O¯ haupo¯ Rugby and Sports Club, sport changing rooms, shared kitchen and bar facilities, and a community gym.
The build cost is approximately $1.7 million. The Centre will be owned and managed by an independent charitable trust which will include t¯rustees appointed by Ohaupo¯ Rugby and Sports Club and trustees appointed by the wider O¯ haupo¯ Community. ■
Once all funding is in place, the project is due to begin in August 2019 and be completed in March 2020.
Significant funding includes Lotteries Community Facilities Fund $565,500, O¯ haupo¯ Bowling Club $160,000, loan of $500,000 from Waipa¯ District Council and Trust Waikato grant of $200,00.
Grassroots Trust, Ohaupo¯ ¯ Lions and Pirongia Ward Committee have also made contributions.
Further applications for grants are being made.
Local fundraising is continuing to fund the final amount required.
Coresteel Waikato, based locally will complete the build.
