New Zealand Walks: Three waterfall walks in Bay of Plenty

Walking New Zealand - - Contents -

It was early August and a beautiful day for a walk, so we headed off to visit three local attractions in the Bay of Plenty Driving to Te Puke, we turned into No 4 Road, where Raparapahoe Falls are signposted on the left at a small carpark. The walk down through native bush, is reasonably steep with lots of steps and tree roots, but is very pretty. You can hear the falls almost all the way. We reached Raparapahoe Stream in 20 minutes, and turning left, walked beside the stream for 10 minutes to the falls. Although not very high they plunge into a beautiful big swimming hole, where locals have tied a rope swing.

It took 35 minutes to return to the car, and we drove 10 minutes to Poplar Lane and Papamoa Hills Scenic Reserve.

Right: Going up Papamoa Hills. Below: Coming back up the steps.
