Above right: Noel emerging from the tunnel at Tunnel Beach, Dunedin. John, the son of the founder of Dunedin (William Cargill), had the tunnel dug to this hidden beach in the 1870s - supposedly so that his family could have a private place to bathe. The Tunnel Beach walk provides spectacular coastal views including a natural archway/ land bridge alongside a buttress-like headland covered in coastal turf.
