Attempted murder charge

A 46-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday charged with attempted murder, after an incident yesterday afternoon in Mangere Bridge, Auckland, that left a 32-year-old woman dead and two others hospitalised.

Witnesses describe a scene of carnage on an industrial street as a man in a black sedan wildly swerved across a factory car park attempting to run down workers — fatally striking one woman.

They said workers from the Oji Bibre Solutions factory desperately tried to detain an out-of-control vehicle moments before hearing a big thud followed by screaming.
