Escaped custody

Police are hunting for a dangeorus alleged car thief who has escaped custody in Auckland. Cody Evans, 21, was due to appear in the Papakura District Court on charges that include unlawfully taking motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. He was being transferred from a prisoner truck to the court cells but he scaled a barbed-wire fence to flee. Evans is of small build, around 167cm tall, and was wearing a ripped black puffer jacket, shorts and black ankle socks. Police describe Evans as dangerous.
