Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone, Macmillan, $29.99

-

Violetta Graceling and her brother Arien are called to Lakesedge by the lord, a young man with a dark past and rumours that he killed his entire family.

The brother and sister have no choice. Arien is plagued by dark dreams that Violetta can no longer control or hide. Their adopted mother is trying to beat the darkness out of him. When the lord Rowan discovers Arien’s dreams, he takes him to his home. Violetta will not leave her brother so she goes too. Rowan has his own uses for Arien, connected to his troubles. To save her brother Violetta must confront their own dark past.

There’s magic and mystery and a love story here, but if you’re looking for lots of action, this is not the book for you. I found it a bit slow and repetitive.
