“Don’t dream your life but live your dream,” said Mark Twain. Yes, I know, Mark. This is a lovely sentiment and unquestionably wise. But how to start? Unless you are unfettered and totally footloose, it’s a freaky thing to just to leap out there. It’s a big risk, right? Not so, according to the families in our cover story. The three families who put aside their lives, routines and the expectations or judgments of others to travel the world with their kids, are possibly the richer for not just travelling and experiencing but taking a risk in the first place. There’s nothing more life-affirming than stepping into the unknown. Sometimes inertia poses the greatest risk. The families in this story worked with different budgets, plans and resources. But the single thing they have in common is they discarded the notion that there is one way — a nice, comfortable routine — and they disrupted it, to be closer with one another and to share an experience and hopefully be wealthier in ways that can’t be measured by economists. And that cover photo of Lena —I’m inspired by her alone.
Have a great weekend.
