ROCKBURN STOLEN KISS CEN­TRAL OTAGO ROSÉ 2018 $30

Re­leased on the week­end that day­light sav­ing kicked off, this wine is crafted from fruit “stolen” from the batch that’d nor­mally go into Rockburn’s sig­na­ture pinot noir. Don’t ex­pect any­thing dainty though; it’s a pink-haired punk rocker wear­ing a bul­let belt of cherry and cream­ing soda and a jacket with spicy studs on its shoul­ders. It’ll give you less of a stolen kiss and more of a Liver­pool kiss of floss and fruit sat­u­rated pro­por­tions.

TWO RIVERS ISLE OF BEAUTY MARL­BOR­OUGH ROSÉ 2018 $20.49

Okay, this bot­tle might look like an elite breed but closer in­spec­tion re­veals the awe­some truth that this is ac­tu­ally a mag­i­cal lit­tle mon­grel done good. Wine­maker Dave Clous­ton has jet­ti­soned the stan­dard sin­gle va­ri­ety ver­sion of pinkdom and opted to get his smor­gas­bord on by blend­ing pinot noir with syrah, viog­nier, pinot gris, ries­ling and (rad­i­cally) some rous­sanne. And it’s good. De­li­ciously dry, with a hint of wa­ter­melon, cherry, pink pep­per­corn and fleshy, peachy punch­i­ness – it’s fresh, feisty and se­ri­ously sip­pable.

TONO HAWKE’S BAY ROSADO 2017 $17.95 Crafted by Ant Macken­zie from syrah, caber­net franc and tem­pranillo, this is his Hawke’s Bay take on how the Span­ish style their rosé, all big, buxom berries and cream flavours with a lick of spice. It also shows per­fectly prickly tex­tures in the mouth, plus it’s sat­is­fy­ing and saucy and darn hard to put down.
