Weekend Herald - Canvas

FROM THE EDITOR

- Sarah Daniell sarah.daniell@nzherald.co.nz

He skates down a street so grievously steep I can hardly watch. He’s effortless, artful and fluid. His grin at the end of the ride so endearing. What a cool and ludicrously courageous person, not just for his adventures in the concrete jungle but for the adversity he has overcome in his life. Russell Brown talks with Levi Hawken, star of the documentary short, Meme Me, about Nek Minnit fame and his work as an artist, as part of Loading Docs. Also this week, from the chef files: Marco Pierre White. Kim Knight gets close to the flame. He’s fascinating, complex and weird. A bit like his most famous dish, tagliatelle and oysters. I’ll just take the latter, raw, thanks. But the story is a scorcher.
