Sip the list

- — Yvonne Lorkin

This French restaurant has actually given an uncharacteristic nod to New Zealand wine by including Kiwi options in every category. They don’t have to do that, there’s enough gloriously affordable French wine available here now to more than fill any wine list. So, merci beaucoup to them for that. Big Bunch chardonnay from Hawke’s Bay sits among the white Burgundy; Clos Henri sauvignon blanc from Marlborough among the Sancerre; Gladstone pinot gris among the Alsace, Explorer Central Otago pinot noir takes pride of place beside the big guns from Burgundy — you get the idea. Three to five options are available in every wine style section, most allowing well-priced glass pours, carafes (500ml) and bottle purchases (great stuff!) plus, they feature a compact, yet impressive “cellar list” for those wanting to give their wallet a workout. Sweet and dry French ciders are on offer from Brittany and Normandy, alongside three French brews (St Sylvestre and Mont Blanc brands). Cette liste de boissons est tres bonne.
