Gingerbread. Paula Bennett. Simon Bahhhhrudges. Nukki Kaye. “Shoulders Nukki, shoulders!” Just type “Tom Sainsbury” in a Google search and up will pop a list of characters that redefine the art of mimicry. Sainsbury is one of the most naturally funny people on the planet. I interviewed him two years ago and, when I asked him what he could see out of the window, he said a guava tree and that it would be a bumper crop. And I don’t know why, but I was gone. I asked if he was an empath and did he view politicians with kindness, he said: “I have a soft spot for Paula. And Simon Bridges. I just think of him as a toddler in a playground. It’s hard not to sympathise with these people.” Two years is an eternity in politics. Much has changed. This week, Sainsbury talks to Canvas about his new TV show, Sextortion, in which he plays a devout Christian politician who has some kinky predilections. I haven’t seen it yet but I’m laughing already.

Have a lovely weekend.
