Soulful Retreat

-

For many of us, after such a challenging year, our homes have become more important— especially during a period where we’re more reflective and reclusive. Back in January trend forecasters predicted a year of ‘spiritual cocooning’ — a very fortuitous prediction — reinforced by the tranquil nature of this year’s official Pantone hue, Classic Blue.

We’ve explored this concept in Canvas recently — considering organic textures from local makers, a return to nostalgic pastimes, and the desire to bring nature indoors with lush house plants and landscape artworks; it all serves to reflect an outlook on the world we’ve missed exploring.

Davina Harper, Dulux’s colour specialist, explains that our homes reflect our emotional state of mind. “This global crisis has changed our relationship with our homes — not just on a practical level, the lines between our work and home have blurred beyond recognition. This also affects us on an emotional level too. We need flexible spaces that can multi-task as areas to conduct our professional lives and perform household tasks, however, at the same time we need our homes to provide balance, calm and a sense of comfort and security.”

The Dulux Retreat palette, from the Dulux Colour Forecast 2021 collection, showcases the cooling tones of Dulux Puhoi, Dulux Five Fingers Peninsula and Dulux Lake Brunner; accented by soft tones of Dulux Urewera and Dulux Franz Josef Quarter — familiar colours inspired by nature that foster a soothing energy for the home that is so relevant now.
