At the time of writing, I was a few minutes shy of breaking my fast, which, according to Dr Joshua Wolrich, is a fool’s game. Dieting (is) for dummies. Call me a fool but I needed to recalibrate, reclaim my corduroys and feel healthier, and intermittent fasting appears to be working. So, stick that in your breakfast smoothie, good doctor, and blend it. The irony is there are so many experts. It’s an expert pile-on and even those unqualified to speak to this topic are absolutely sure of themselves and will make sure you hear about it. Physician — heal thyself! Greg Bruce talks to Wolrich about his new book, Food Isn’t Medicine: Challenge Nutrib*llocks & Escape The Diet Trap, in which he eviscerates dieting and doctors who promote it. To carb or not to carb, that is the question. Forgive us our daily sourdough and lead us not to tempranillo. The irony is, it’s really only the privileged who are able to deny themselves egg yolks or pasta. And science may indeed prove that any diet is a folly. But the most important points Wolrich makes concern poverty and policy gaps that fail those most in need of support, economically.

It is there, ultimately, that the experts should weigh in.
