French future tipped for Cruden
Speculation is growing that All Black five- eighth Aaron Cruden could be eyeing a $ 1 million future in France.
French rugby magazines yesterday claimed he could join Montpellier under its New Zealand coach Vern Cotter.
Valuers du Rugby reported that Cruden was already in negotiations with the southern French team. It was claimed the 27- year- old was being offered an annual salary of $ 1.54m including premiums.
The magazine Midi- Olympic suggested the Chiefs pivot could be snapped up as a possible replacement for Demetri Catrakilis when Cotter takes over the Montpellier coaching duties next season.
Cruden began the June series as the All Blacks’ first choice first- five but he suffered a neck injury in the second test.
Cruden, who made his test debut in 2010 and has played 42 times for the All Blacks, has also been linked in the British press with English club sides Harlequins and Worcester.
According to The Rugby Paper, Cruden’s representatives have begun putting out feelers to a number of top clubs, but he “will only consider making a move if his £ 700,000 ($ 1.25m) wage demands are met”.
Another All Black on the list of Northern Hemisphere rugby scouts is prop Owen Franks, who comes off contract with NZ Rugby next year and reportedly is assessing offshore interest. Prop Charlie Faumuina is also in the sights of French recruiters with Toulouse said to have his signature.
