A winery with superb views
Sailfish Cove is a small family- owned vineyard overlooking the Poor Knights Islands and sitting above the Tutukaka coast.
It’s a location National Geographic Traveller magazine has rated among the top three coastal destinations in the world.
Now the long- time Northland owners are selling their 30- acre property which produces a range of wines, from pinot gris to shiraz.
The owner of Silverdale- based Century 21 Northern Realty, Donna a‘ Beckett, says the winery offers stunning views as well as good wine.
“There’s well- appointed private holiday accommodation, facilities to cater for functions and weddings plus hundreds of mature olives trees producing olive oil,” says a‘ Beckett.
“There i s a substantial threebedroom home for the owner, a large indoor heated swimming pool and separate two- bedroom self- contained guest accommodation. The large wooden clifftop building also houses a functioning winery and cellar door which is open by appointment or for special events.”
She says the 218 North Cable Way address has a CV of $ 2,330,000.
“It’s great value for money, because this fabulous lifestyle property as a going concern, complete with all equipment and facilities a modernday boutique winery needs. Yet Sailfish Cove is effectively being sold for its property value alone — with all the plant and equipment being thrown in for no extra cost.”
Current owners operate this vineyard with seasonal staff and bring in a wine- maker for about six weeks a year.
The accommodation is regularly booked, being set in a secluded boutique vineyard which guests can roam freely with year- round access to the heated indoor pool. Tutukaka marina and restaurants are a short drive away.
“You must visit to grasp the beauty of this property. I’ve been encouraging people to book a wine tasting and vineyard tour with me to fully appreciate this location and all it has to offer,” a‘ Beckett.
So a‘ Beckett points out you don’t necessarily need to know much about wine production. However, you can enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you’ve created something with your own label on it.
Sailfish Cove wines are sold through liquor stores, beach stores, restaurants and the Regent New World supermarket. Some sells via their website www. sailfishcove. co. nz, an area which could be further developed.
“The property is only about a third planted in vines, so potential remains for further production. In addition to making and selling wine and provision of high- end accommodation, there is much potential to grow the function side of the business,” says a‘ Beckett.
“As for promotion, this pristine part of Northland’s coastline i s already well promoted overseas, featuring in many international travel guides.”
