Boost for Big Boys Toys

Next weekend the gates of ASB Showgrounds will play host to Big Boys Toys, New Zealand’s largest malefocused lifestyle show of the year.

Running from Friday-Sunday, November 10-12, this year’s event is the 17th edition of Big Boys Toys, where tens of thousands of people are treated to a packed entertainment schedule and a range of the latest cars, toys, gadgets, lifestyle products and electronics.

Last year more than 30,000 people attended the show. This year, the organisers hope to boost those numbers with the addition of new zones and five halls of goodies to see, sample and buy.

The hub for motoring fans will be the Driven Hall, featuring the latest cars from some of New Zealand’s biggest automotive players. Exhibitors include Giltrap Group, Ferrari, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, SRT, RAM and Tesla. The Driven Hall will also be where fans of the prancing horse will be able to see the LaFerrari Aperta — a hybrid supercar built to celebrate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, and one of only 209 built.

For the third consecutive year, Big Boys Toys will also host The Automania Showcase. This has great examples of this country’s customised cars.

“This is where you get to see some insane imports, outrageous hot rods, timeless classics, massive muscle cars, rare racecars, and exceptional exotics,” explained Automania founders Matt Groves and Nick Hoyle. This zone includes DJs, interactive zones, games and giveaways.

However, cars won’t be the only motorised products on display. The programme includes the launch of the Manta 5 Hydrofil Bike, a new invention that allows you to cycle over lakes and rivers.

Catering for heavy machinery, the Construction Zone has excavators, extreme 4x4 demonstrations and Scania truck rides.

Punters will also be able to take part in the excavator challenge, or sit back and watch the pros do it in the Auckland Excavator Operator Champs.

You’ll find more tools to fill the shed in the The Garage, as well as some of the best Beach Hop cars in New Zealand.

A new Music Zone will feature new instruments, interactive displays and live performances.

It’s also where you’ll find the Mega Speaker — the only one in the world — from the first scene of 80s classic Back to the Future.
