Flynny’s Feeling

With a large family of young children (four at my last count), I know only too well how hard it is to find a vehicle that can fit everyone in easily, safely, without being squished and the kids trying to murder each other.

So, when I was offered a Honda CR-V for a week, I jumped at the chance.

The first thing I thought was, hmmm, this car looks too small for 7 people – but as soon as I opened the doors and plonked my kids in the back, I realised the kids were all comfortable in their seats in the back and, helpfully there are lights on the dash which tell me which seatbelts are done up and which aren’t.

So, yes, a very spacious SUV indeed – and it’s not a giant gas-guzzling SUVs.

There are many features and they are all supersimple to master – even a stressed father of four with two jobs and severely lacking in sleep can understand it all.

There is a large middle screen which has many of these features visible – the built-in GPS maps are super easy to use and navigate and it also puts the basic next direction onto the dashboard as well.

If you like blasting tunes loud , like I do, the sound system is a ripper. There are a couple of USB portals to charge your device/phone which also hooks your music up to the audio system.

There’s an Apple Music app included and connecting to the Bluetooth is easy and fast – meaning you can safely talk on the phone and, pump your songs or playlists in all their glory.

What could be better on a glorious summer’s day than a tinted sunroof, which protects you from those UV rays and opens with ease at the touch of a button?

If you’ve a large family and you want to drive around feeling like a king, the Honda CR-V is for you.

Stace’s Stance

You know you’re on to something good when your 23-year-old sister and 5-year-old daughter comment on how cool a car is.

That’s what happened with the Honda CR-V our family enjoyed for a week. Apart from the features the leather interior, smooth-looking exterior, the sunroof, easy Bluetooth phone connection – both admirers appreciated the smooth ride.

My husband noticed the ‘nice mags’ first which was pretty much lost on me, I have to admit. But that provides a big tick in his mind – and it didn’t stop there.

The lane-changing camera was a game changer for him; I think we may have even changed lanes more than needed in order to use it more often.

One of the stand-out features for me was the adaptive cruise control, with low speed follow. As a passenger I called it anti-nag technology, because I really enjoyed not having to suggest a bigger following distance, because the car did it for me.

To even things up though, I’ll admit the parking sensors that beep was probably most relevant to me. It gave me a sense of security knowing the car would beep a warning if I got too close to the wall in a parking building, and that the reversing camera gave me perfect vision.

With other neat features like the driver attention monitor, which keeps track of how you’re driving and recommends when you need a break, I felt a lot safer in this car with our three kids on board.

Considering there’s also road departure mitigation and lane departure warning, this is a great car for long trips, giving peace of mind that adds to the relaxation factor of a family trip. All in all, the Honda CR-V was a big winner in the Morrison household!
