Blues call on button

Weekend Herald - - Viewpoints -

I endorse Chris Rattue's call for Tana Umaga to retire as coach of the Blues. Umaga is highly respected as an amazing former player and captain of the All Blacks but he has not shown he has the right qualities to coach the Blues. Rugby is a team sport. Although the team has many good players they do not play well as a team, and a good coach should be developing strong team cohesion. Two outstanding players, Rieko Ioane and Sonny Bill Williams, are examples of brilliant players who consistently play as team players. Others play more as individuals and let the team down when they get frustrated then indisciplined and break rules.
