Dixon ready to tackle the Tricky Triangle

- Dale Budge

Kiwi driver Scott Dixon takes a healthy IndyCars Championship lead into Monday’s round at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.

Earlier in the week, the 38-yearold Dixon re-signed with Chip Ganassi Racing, having drawn significant interest from major rivals Penske Racing as well as major Formula One outfit McLaren, who are planning a full-time entry into IndyCars next season.

Dixon is within touching distance of a stunning fifth championship. He holds a 46-point advantage over Alexander Rossi with three normal races coming in the next three weeks, plus a double points finish at Sonoma Raceway next month. He is confident he can add to his lead at Monday’s round on the Tricky Triangle circuit at Pocono.

“Pocono is a great track and one I think everyone looks forward to on the IndyCar schedule each year,” Dixon said.

“It is definitely the ‘Tricky Triangle’ with the level of difficulty. It takes a lot of compromise to get through turns one and three the right way.

“I expect it to be pretty close to the style of racing we had last year,” he said. “I was a big fan of the racing there and the really good cars stayed at the front and could work through traffic. A few years ago, I think it was too close to pack racing and almost anyone could win, but they really have the package nailed down right now, which should make for an exciting race.”

Dixon won at Pocono in 2013 and went on to win the championship.
