Bad start

-

Passenger travel from Auckland to Wellington is advertised frequently on TV as “a world class train journey”. The scenery is certainly world class and the trains themselves are fine. But the Auckland departure point is a platform with no shelter whatsoever, no seating and very hard to find.

Despite the menu, the main food on board for the 12 hour journey is meat pies in a sealed paper bag. Anything of higher quality has run out long before lunch time, let alone for an early dinner before arrival.

We hear about the need to offer overseas tourists good services at cruise terminals and at the airport but once here many of them travel on this train.
