Who is profiting

I feel the Lime e-scooters are another case where it appears all the money made is being remitted overseas, to California, while all the costs, ACC, policing, cycle lanes etc, are being borne by local tax and rate payers. I doubt any taxes are being paid by those charging up these scooters. Is GST being paid for the service?

Do not tell us that each journey by bike or scooter is one less car on the road, these products are 95 per cent recreational. I suggest ACC, Auckland Transport and the Auckland Council look at an insurance loading of a few cents per km travelled and at the same time IRD needs to promptly visit the unlabelled Kingsland site and work out who is paying whom in this gig economy. Ponsonby was awash with scooters today, riders including intermediate schoolchildren.
