The week that was

Quote of the week: “I thought LeBron was a one shot deal but apparently the next guy's coming,” Golden State Warriors NBA coach Steve Kerr joins the Zion

Williamson appreciation society. The 198cm, 127km powerhouse is an 18-year-old freshman who made his debut for Duke University this week. He’s got the power of LeBron James but the grace of ballet dancer. Teacup storm of the week: Liverpool were shocked

2-0 by Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League clash but most of the analysis was on the coin-toss call of Liverpool captain James Milner. Offered the red or blue sides of a coloured disc, Milner called “blue” — the colour associated with their arch-rivals Everton. One red-blooded wit said famed Liverpool coach Bill Shankley would have traded Milner straight away for such an abhorrent decision.

Idiot (or hero) of the week: Dennis Galvin proposed to his girlfriend Kaitlyn Curran while she was running the New York Marathon this week. Curran was about

26km into the 42km race when Galvin jumped the barrier and called her over, going down on the knee and proffering the ring. Curran finished the race wearing her new ring, but runners everywhere were horrified at Galvin’s thoughtless interruption. Whether the marriage is a sprint or a marathon will tell the story.
