Breakers produce top display

The Breakers produced their first fourquarte­r performanc­e of the season to crush the Cairns Taipans at Spark Arena last night.

The hosts dominated throughout, building a handy 57-45 halftime advantage and effectivel­y wrapping up the match with a

13-point run in the third quarter to lead 82-57 at the final break. The lead blew out to 30 in the fourth quarter before drifting to a 104-81 conclusion. Corey Webster led all scorers with 25 points, while import Patrick Richards stepped up with 21 of his own.

The result took the Breakers to 3-3, just outside the top four, and continued their record of following a loss with a win through all six games this season. The defeat was Cairns’ fifth in a row and leaves the Taipans 1-5.

The big lead allowed coach Kevin Braswell to clear the bench late on, with Thomas Vodanovich and Maxwell de Geest making their Breakers debuts, becoming the club’s 106th and 107th players.

The Breakers play again tomorrow at

9.30pm in Brisbane against a Bullets side that was 3-3 before playing the Wildcats in Perth last night.
