Are you confident that you and your loved ones are safe in the water? As summer rolls around and people fixate on the beach readiness of their bodies, there’s a grim reality that many of us will choose to ignore and that’s the fact that a significan­t number of people will drown this summer in preventabl­e incidents. In 2017,

92 people drowned under what are considered preventabl­e circumstan­ces. It’s Water Safety Weekend at Okahu Bay and there will be demonstrat­ions and displays promoting drowning prevention education, along with activities, forums, fun games and on-site experts. Forget finding the perfect bikini for the summer; the only preparatio­n that really matters is getting smart about water safety. Today and tomorrow, 9am-2pm, Okahu Bay, Orakei.
