Rodeo cowboy facing legal action

The New Zealand Animal Law Association has filed criminal charges against a rodeo cowboy for illegally using an electric shocker on calves and cattle at Northland rodeos. The Ministry for Primary Industries investigated alleged abuse last year but decided not to prosecute and issued a warning. However, the association is launching a private prosecution “against an individual breaching rodeo’s own rules.”
