Preventive detention for rapist
A Canterbury man who preyed on women and children for three decades was sentenced yesterday to preventive detention. The 52-yearold, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of raping a woman on a weekly basis over six months in 2012. She has been left traumatised, suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and panic attacks. The man was sentenced to preventive detention with a minimum period of seven years’ imprisonment.
