Burning coal

-

The Ministers of Climate Change and Energy appear to be asleep at the wheel over the electricity crisis. Due to the loss of gas from Pohokura, which is likely to last till the end of November, Genesis have been forced to burn coal at Huntly and will have got though about 160,000 tonnes by then. We would need to plant nearly four million trees to offset the extra CO2 emissions from this. . Why aren’t the ministers making an urgent appeal to the public to save power and help stop this appalling waste? Scott Rabone, Kohimarama.
