Weekend Herald

A quick word

Please Air NZ, stick to your core business. Leave the “entertainment” to entertainers. As a long haul pilot this latest safety video just makes me cringe.

Hal Griffiths, Whitianga.

There seems to be a glaring blind-spot in the starry-eyed plans of the Auckland Council to get cars out of the central city. Three words sum it up: women, night, taxis. Danyel Simich, Mt Albert.

We took the PM’s advice and “read between the lines“. And look what we found, a PM out of touch and her immigration minister “out to lunch“. Larry Mitchell, Puhoi.

Once again, your artist’s impression of Queen St trams gives no indication of any overhead power wiring. For a taste of what it may be like, glance at any suburban rail corridor. Roger Stewart, Te Atatu.

It is an absolute disgrace that Sean Johnson has been virtually sacked by Cameron George. He is the one who should be let go.

Rex Head, Papatoetoe.

In response to A. Kelly, I line my kitchen scrap bin with the Saturday Herald. I don’t accept plastic bags when shopping. I cannot understand all the fuss, it’s all so easy.

Judith Bouwman, Torbay.

There must have been a Mrs Clause because there are a lot of Santas around the place.

A. J. Petersen, Kawerau. Minister Lees-Galloway cannot be sent off because there is no one left on the subs bench. A. D. Kirby, Papamoa.

Further to Jenny Petersen’s comments about the PM’s use of “absolutely”, how about Simon Bridges overuse of “incredibly”? Incredibly annoying? Absolutely.

Ailsa Greenwood, Haruru.

How about dear old Dan the weatherman and his “of course”s — usually when it’s not “of course”. Pamela Russell, Orakei.

Why should the families of the pilots, crew and Justice Mahon be sacrificed again to misrepresentation and rumour when it was proved beyond doubt Air NZ changed the coordinates without informing the pilots, sending them and their passengers to their death?

Mary Tallon, Morningside.

Not content with donating $100 million to the America’s Cup, the Government is now diverting $20 million of lottery profits to promote it. Perhaps the Government will explain which community groups and charities will miss out on Lottery funding as a result. Michael Swift, Kohimarama.

Does the announcement of a Air NZ direct service between Auckland and Chicago really merit two pages of coverage? One paragraph is enough surely?

I. Donaldson, Northcote.
