A quick word
It is hardly surprising Eden Park is facing bankruptcy; any entertainment business only permitted to operate 25 nights per year is doomed to failure. If it does close, blame the handful of neighbours who object to its use.

If one deletes “Eden Park”, from Chris Rattue’s opinion yesterday, the opening paragraph expresses exactly how I feel when faced with his every opinion. “Just what we need — another doom and gloom — report”. Dave Murray, Grey Lynn
Here’s the solution: a purpose-designed Western Springs for cricket, re-purpose Eden Park as a roofed stadium, include an exterior facade of residential apartments, forget the waterfront stadium and it’s all selffunded.
Tony Kaye, Hamilton
Would you and other media please stop referring to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as Meghan Markle? It is not only disrespectful, as her name, title and status changed the day she married Prince Harry, it is journalism at its laziest.
Jeremy Coleman, Hillpark
Your story concerning the near miss between an ocean liner and a small inflatable on Tauranga Harbour is gratuitously offensive to at least 50 per cent of the population. Surely the latter being “manned” by two women and two men should be worded “crewed by two persons of each gender” thereby striking another important blow for gender equality.
George Collins, Tauranga
Thanks to Auckland Council for trading in safe pedestrian transits for negotiated public spaces. They were formerly known as footpaths.
Ellie Carruthers, Eden Terrace
I want to thank the gardeners who look after the greenhouses in the Auckland Domain for their hard work and creativity resulting in beautiful floral displays which are changed frequently. A visit is better than a tonic: it’s priceless but free. Edwina Duff, Parnell
The report that widening waists in Britain are resulting in smaller brains with an increased risk of developing dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases should perhaps be setting off alarm bells here.

They should give Trump his wall. After all, US$5.7b is a small price to pay considering how rich America is. Mexico might contribute to get some peace and quiet. It could ameliorate the relationship with China if the Chinese were asked to build it; they have far more experience.
