What I’d do

- Tim Batt

1 hangover, Saturday morning: Knock knock. Who’s there? Your idiot. Nothing that can’t be fixed by a stunning Tart Bakery vegan pie and fab coffee from Post Office (formerly Ko¯ kako). Mid-morning now and time for me to watch Sex and The City: The Movie for the 41st time. Why? Because I must for my podcast The Worst Idea of All Time (Guy Montgomery and I are reviewing the film 52 times in a row — for science!) I am truly losing my lust for life, so time to grab some fresh air with my puppy. There’s no better place to pick up my furry mate’s turds than the gorgeous Meola Reef (or Grey Lynn Park if it’s windy). Now over to Harvest by Huckleberry for an early plant-based din-dins to fuel up for the most magical time of the year: NZ International Comedy Festival time!

2 Saturday night: I like to check out as many shows as humanly possible during the fest so first up, playwright/comedian Uther Dean at 7pm. I feel enriched. Now, Aussie legend Aaron Chen at 8.45pm. My sides are busted. For comedy dessert, the hilarious musical duo Two Hearts at 10pm. Time for a drink at Whammy Bar.

3 Sunday morning: Knock knock. Oh, you again. Do come in. It’s a cup of tea with Panadol and a Happy Mother’s Day call for breakfast. Now, time to do some work on my upcoming comedy festival show, Space Couch: A Live Comedy Chat Show.

Sitting at my computer, waiting for inspiration to strike. Uh oh, I’m bored. Movie time. My fave cinema is the Hollywood Avondale — it’s beautiful and exceptionally well-programmed. If it’s fully booked, I’m going on a date with my wife to Save Ferris, a great new barcade on Symonds St. Then, downstairs to enjoy a crazy 8 Wired sour beer from The Beer Jerk Bunker (more than 100 different beers available).

Sunday night: More comedy. With a name like The

Comedy Show On Earth, how could you go past this line-up show of 10 comedians? You better believe I’m running, not walking out of there to catch Australian absurd genius Demi Larnder (the crazy amazing woman with pink hair on the gala). What a weekend. What a life. What an overdraft . . .
