Weekend Herald

Cover to cover, it’s change with a capital C

-

People have asked why change? It’s simple — the opposite of change is stagnation. Sameness. Change means diversity and innovation.

We’ve had the opportunity to sharpen our focus, and our new-look Canvas incorporates the best of the weekend magazines into one big, bold, bumper magazine.

In keeping with our theme of embracing change, our cover story features Stacey Morrison, talking about the need for change and tolerance. And nine young women who star in The Wolves, at Silo Theatre, discuss how they would change the world.

Our designer, Paul Slater, has created a superb magazine that is at once contemporary and classic, edgy and elegant.

The new Canvas will include all your favourites, including Annabel

Langbein, An Episode With. . ., The Confession Box, columnists Steve Braunias and Ashleigh Young, the Weekend Guide — the essential guide to what’s going on in and around Ta¯maki Makaurau. We have our superb restaurant reviews, Yvonne Lorkin’s witty wine matches, brunch write-ups, where you can also tap into the coolest beverages in town — The Saturday Brew — and the best takeaway, with The Takeout column.

Calum Henderson’s funny and insightful television reviews are matched with Tom Augustine’s film reviews in culture. An Episode With . . . features on-screen stars, and there’s the best in the latest books. And we take a whimsical approach to travel with a new weekly essay.

We’ve aimed to create a smart and substantial read, combining the best of both worlds, reflecting our community and our world.
