MODERN CLASSIC
Transformed home is a blend of styles, writes LOUISE RICHARDSON
“I like the fact that the house is kind of triangulated for entertaining.”
In terms of luxury features, 294 Victoria Ave is a Lotto winner’s dream home. Built by developer Peter Turner, with interior design by his wife Sarndra, it is probably one of the highest quality properties to hit the Auckland market in recent years.
Turner himself originally intended to do a makeover of the 1970s single-storey house. “However, there was so much work to do that we decided, basically, to start again.”
His brief to designer Mike Hartley, from Lloyd Hartley Architects, was “something modern, but somewhat classical inside”.
The two-storey 602sq m cedar home on a 1158sq m site has a spectacular 8m-high atrium and spiral staircase.
There are six bedrooms, including a guest suite on the ground floor. The walk-in wardrobe in the master suite is really a full-size dressing room.
The house boasts six bathrooms, five of which are en suites. The decor throughout is warm, neutral and restful.
The kitchen is fully equipped with Miele and Liebherr appliances and a large scullery.
The dining and living area opens to a courtyard, decking and pool, and the marble outdoor fireplace is both a focal and talking point.
“I like the fact that the house is kind of triangulated for entertaining, with an ease of flow between these areas,” says Peter.
Residents barely need to leave home — there’s a media lounge, a bar, gym, and wine cellar. A workshop is incorporated into the three-car garage.
The house comes with an impressive chattels list which includes a home security system, state-of-the-art light fittings, pool accessories and a pump shed.
It’s fully landscaped with well-established trees and other plantings.
Ray White Epsom agent Heather Walton says: “Everything is so highly specced. A new owner could just move in and would need to do absolutely nothing.
