There are actually two new 30-badged Mazda compact SUVs. So don’t confuse the CX-30 with the Japanese maker’s forthcomin­g pure-electric vehicle, the MX-30. It’s easily done: they’re loosely related underneath and about the same size.

Why “MX”? Mazda says it denotes a model that explores new territory (like the MX-5 did 30 years ago). With a 35.5kWh battery and 200km range, expect to see the EV MX-30 in New Zealand next year.
