Man charged over severed finger

A 65- year- old Waikato man has been charged for allegedly chopping off a burglar’s finger after two youths broke into his property. Police said one of the youths had a finger severed in an “altercation” in the early hours of October 1 at a property in Piopio. Police said the man pointed a firearm at the youths while they were at the property, but it was not fired. One of the youths has also been charged with committing a burglary with a weapon and referred to the youth court.
