Kiwi universe blazes with stars: And Viva has ’em all

-

Viva Magazine Volume Three goes on sale on Monday, with cover model Jordan Daniels, a New York-based NZ Model, home due to Covid-19. A luxe mix of premium beauty, fashion, culture, food and design updates from New Zealand and abroad — Volume Three is a celebration of New Zealand’s best and brightest stars.

Viva Magazine editor Amanda Linnell said: “Good things take time. Like waiting for our cover model Jordan Daniels to come out of quarantine for our shoot with creative director Dan Ahwa and photographer Mara Sommer.”

Viva was the only assignment Daniels agreed to while on her short and precious visit to New Zealand to reconnect with family, before returning to New York where her career is on a trajectory — like so many of our great expats.

In January she appeared in

American Vogue, photographed by documentary photographer Susan Meisel. She’s featured in British Vogue with photographer Oliver Hadlee Pearch, appeared in a Calvin Klein campaign shot by Lachlan Bailey and walked runway shows for the likes of Chloe, Prada, Valentino and Moschino.”

Viva Magazine showcases New Zealand’s exceptional fashion expats in London, Paris and New York including a group of the brightest fashion stars and their career journeys and life overseas. Profiles include Demi Sinclair of Elite Models in Paris, Jeremy Olds from Mastermind Magazine, Isabella Rose Davey, head of communications at Copenhagen Fashion Week and Hongi Luo, UK brand lead at Tik Tok, among others.

Also among its pages is the most comprehensive guide to New Zealand’s exciting and thriving food scene, from far north to deep south. Food writer Leisha Jones uncovers the people, places and movements flourishing right now, from natural wine to new-wave Korean, savoury cocktails to small-batch charcuterie.

Viva Magazine Volume Three not only features the latest food, fashion, culture, beauty and design from around the country but readers are spoiled for choice with a photo essay on talented teens in the provinces, curated by stylist and photographer Thistle Brown, whose work regularly appears in the Financial Times’ How To Spend It, Dazed and Confused, and Purple magazines.

Thistle returned to his hometown, Whang¯arei, and reconnected with the children and teenagers of his old neighbourhood. He travelled with his old school friend, writer Sam Tekani, whose accompanying essay beautifully captures our next generation’s dreams and aspirations.
