A Covid security guard who tested positive for Covid hadn't been vaccinated. Now it's been revealed his last test was in November. Herald readers share their views.

Why is everyone blaming the Government? This guard obviously didn’t take his own initiative to get tested knowing they have to every two weeks, so he has been avoiding it. Plus police have been called in to identify his locations of interest so he has no intention to help authorities. This is nothing to do with Labour. This guy’s the problem here.

There is a breach of duty to care, which must now result in negligence. Someone is definitely at fault here and MUST be punished. If it results in community infection, then a lockdown is imminent. Aucklanders are tired of being scapegoats when some officials cannot do their job. Can the culprits be punished this time around?

The buck always stops some place else with this Government and their officials. The main reasons we haven’t had an out-of-control pandemic here are geography, low population density and undoubtedly the efforts of people on the ground. Not Government or anyone in government.

So the Government and the security company did not have some sort of list of their employees and an up-to-date record on when they got tested?

If they are going to use private firms, a simple way to ensure they comply is to ask for proof all staff are tested every two weeks. No proof, the firm doesn't get paid for those two weeks. Simple to implement.
