Expressway opening next year

-

Waka Kotahi NZTA has confirmed a major K¯apiti expressway is now expected to open to traffic late next year. The 13km four-lane Peka Peka to Otaki ¯ Expressway, which started construction in 2017 and was slated to be complete this year, was delayed due to changes with the project. These included building a 10km shared path (for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders) alongside the expressway and upgrading the surface of the expressway with a new pavement design. The construction was also affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. Cost of the project also increased from $330 million to the now estimated $405m. Waka Kotahi NZTA says the project is now almost three-quarters complete.
