The fastest ute I’ve driven isn’t from HSV or FPV, but the NZ built Colorado Z71 running a supercharged LSA 6.2-litre V8! With full-time 4WD, it sprinted to 100km/h under five secs, from the same 430kW monster engine that the HSV SportsCat should have had.
This is all about me, right? My ute dream is a double cab with a tray long enough to fit our family’s 29in mountain bikes without removing wheels – just for the sheer convenience of it. There’s only one that fits the brief as far as I know: the SsangYong Rhino XL.
Low-slung, two-door, Australian-built utes are the coolest. Something like an HSV Maloo or Ford Falcon XR6 turbo would easily qualify as a dream car, but both Dean and David dramatically roll their eyes every time I mention them.
