SPACE, VIEWS AND PRIVACY

A compelling, expansive and contemporary home with privacy and views provides an exceptional way of life, writes GABRIELLE NOOIJEN.

The phrase ‘you don’t know what you want until you see it’ couldn’t be more fitting for Madeleine and Des.

They weren’t looking for a holiday house when they viewed 5 Kingswood Place by chance some 15 years ago, but within a step through the door they were immediately bowled over by the views and say there was little to consider.

The home’s elevated position and successive views affords it appeal few other properties can claim. “The moment we walked through the door, the sheer expanse of the views and aspect were remarkable,” Madeleine says.

But it wasn’t just the views that had the couple sold on the property. “The space and privacy of the home added to its appeal, you didn’t feel closed in by anyone.”

Their expansive home set on the hillside, backdropped by dense trees and overlooking the ocean, easily accommodated three generations during lockdown in 2020.

Featuring a large master bedroom on the first floor, with walk-in wardrobe and an impeccably modern ensuite enjoys views to the ocean.

On the same level, the sprawling kitchen and living area extend to a large deck where the bulk of entertaining is done. The home’s study on the same level enables working from home seamlessly.

The kitchen was remodeled less than five years ago. “It’s an absolute joy to be in, everything is so workable,” Madeleine says.

Gaggenau appliances, two dishwashers and a large marble island make it a sleek and effective working kitchen with finesse. A clean white palette, floor to ceiling glass sliding doors and neutral flooring produce a modern and light environment that engages the home’s elevated views.

Downstairs are the remaining three large bedrooms, bathroom and living for guests and extended family. Informally bordered by hibiscus, olive and magnolia trees, the home’s surrounds are both beautiful and undemanding.

The couple have embraced Langs Beach and everything the area has offered them. Their longstanding and understandable regard for the area is evident.

“The community and the people are fantastic, it’s very social and it’s that real sense of neighbourhood that we love about Langs. The access to the tennis courts, the bush walks, and the socialising couldn’t be better,” Madeleine says.

Keen boaters, the couple raised one of the garages to accommodate boats, allowing them to be on the water in quick time and adding to the pair’s already remarkable lifestyle.

Christine Birss, of Bayleys, who is marketing the property, says, “Only a skeptic wouldn’t be impressed by the views from 5 Kingswood Place.

“Huge views along the beach and out around the bay, including the iconic headland of Whangarei Heads, and the serene views of mature native bush-clad hills.

“It’s a large house built to share time with friends or family, or simply hide away from the world.”
