Future Feet has been serving customers since the early 1990s and has retained its flagship store at 1a Jervois Rd, Ponsonby, Auckland, since its opening.
Future Feet also operates a successful online store, which has urban and rural customers throughout New Zealand. It is New Zealand’s most popular independent children’s footwear retailer, specialising in fitting children’s shoes from toddlers through to teens.
They're well-known for providing a high level of customer service and have a customer loyalty database of over 26,000 customers.
They carry the largest range of imported and locally made children’s shoes in the country. Key brands include Asics, Birkenstock, Bobux, McKinlays, Nike, Keen, Skechers, Adidas, Salt Water Sandals, Teva, Vans and Clarks.
Future Feet's location is in the Three Lamps area of Ponsonby, in a prominent position on the corner of Jervois and St Mary’s roads. The business has been operating from this site for almost 30 years, with a wide street frontage with highly visible display windows to passing vehicle and foot traffic.
“When walking into the store, you get a very real feel as to why this is the ultimate children's footwear specialist and understand why the owner bought it, having been a customer all those years ago,” says de Vere.
The store is open seven days a week and is staffed with a minimum of two staff on weekdays and three to five on weekends. The business has three main seasonal sales peaks — January for back to school, April for winter styles and October for summer styles.
It has had long-term supply relationships with its suppliers, most of which are New Zealand-based.
Future stock orders are indented regularly, typically nine to 12 months in advance. All forward orders for the upcoming winter and summer seasons are in place with the manufacturers. The owners are based out of Auckland, so this is a truly semimanaged business with the owner doing around 10 hours a week. Sophisticated reporting systems keep the owner fully informed at all levels of business activities across its retail and e-commerce sites.
The lease carries through to 2024 with a further right of renewal.
