Fresh talent vies for Fashion Week splash

-

The work of New Zealand fashion’s youngest designers will be back on the runway for next month’s NZ Fashion Week.

For the past eight years, more than 220 fashion students have been given the chance to display their designs as part of a partnership between Resene and Whitecliffe Fashion Tech. This year’s crop of 21 students showed their designs to judges yesterday.

Models (from left) Emily Triggs, Tia Harris and Amber Macdonald showed the works of, respectively, Aeron Balgemino, Sarah Browning and Jordan Tay. The judges’ selection will be displayed at Fashion Week, after being relegated to street posters around NZ last year because of Covid.

The students, some of whom sewed their first stitch only five years ago, will see their work on the same runway as the winter 2022 offering of Trelise Cooper, Kate Sylvester and Zambesi.

Whitecliffe students had to create a silk work in an array of Resene paint colours. Between 10 and 15 will be selected to join Fashion Week in August.
