Covid found in wastewater

A positive Covid-19 test result has been detected in New Plymouth wastewater, the Ministry of Health says.

“It is most likely that the positive wastewater results are due to recently recovered cases continuing to shed the virus,” the ministry said.

There is no MIQ in New Plymouth.

While the mariners aboard the Playa Zahara and Viking Bay recently docked at Port Taranaki, their visits do not appear to be a factor. Additional testing is being carried out for a small number of port workers and nurses.
