Second time I saw 300km/h was in a 2005 Ford GT, but I’ll downscale a little to talk about the first time I really hooked into a corner in a Ford Focus ST170. Not a lot of power, but an insanely high level of steering accuracy, grip and corner speed. It reminded me FWDs can really corner!

During the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, I stayed at the Dearborn Inn (formerly the Ford Airport Hotel), drove at the Dearborn Development Centre, visited the Henry Ford Museum and even called in at the old Model T factory at Piquette Avenue. It’s a great origin story.

The time I was invited to ride along with Ken Block at the International Rally of Whanga¯rei comes to mind. Unfortunately, Ken’s Escort RS Cosworth blew up before the run started, but the pizzas at the Waipu Pizza Barn more than made up for it.
