Situated very handily, just off Orakei Road, 26 Komaru Street sits in an excellent position, close to schools, cafes, shops and public transport yet it’s very quiet and private and enjoys wonderful leafy views across the surroundin­g neighbourh­ood.

The owner has lived here for 40 years and kept the northfacin­g property very tidy, so it presents beautifull­y.

“It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here so long, and we’ve certainly done a few bits and pieces to it along the way.

“When we bought the house, there a few unusual aspects – almost as if somebody had tried turning it into a villa, so we turned it back and we also put on an addition to open up the back of the house for access to the garden then installed a swimming pool, which was very popular with our children,” she says.

The kitchen is neat and very functional, carefully positioned in order to allow the cook – or cooks – to be part of the surroundin­g activity. Polished timber floorboard­s here contrast with quality carpet in other parts of the property, and the living areas are bright and expansive with built-in shelving and large windows.

The owner says that most bungalows of this era don’t have internal access garaging, so that’s been an especially convenient bonus.

“It’s great to be able to drive straight in on a typically rainy Auckland day in winter and there’s plenty of uncovered offstreet parking too!”

Steve Koerber from Ray White, Remuera knows the local area like the back of his hand and says that character homes with this much potential are hard to find.

“It’s lovely and liveable just exactly as it is now, but there are all kinds of things you could do in the future, such as adding a second bathroom or a media room, for example.”

He agrees with the owner that it’s great having Little Rangitoto Reserve and Benson Road Deli right nearby and that the easy proximity of the train station makes commuting a breeze.

The vendor says that she’ll miss the quiet street.

She’s also a big fan of the walkway around Orakei Basin and says that a 10-15- minute stroll to shops and cafes, will soon become a pleasant part of a new owner’s daily pattern.
